At Libanus all pupils participate in regular music lessons in class as part of the Expressive Arts Area of Learning and Experience. These lessons provide them with opportunities to develop skills in performing, composing and appraising music. Pupils are also able to join our school choir, which participates in many community events such as the Remembrance Day Service and the Blackwood Lantern Parade.
We are also committed to providing all of our pupils with the opportunity to learn to play a musical instrument. Pupils have the opportunity to learn the violin, piano, cello, drums and guitar.
Research has shown that there are many benefits to learning to play a musical instrument. These include helping to develop the following skills:
- Focus and memory
- Cognitive flexibility (the ability to think about multiple things at once)
- Self-control and time management
- Increased confidence and self-esteem
- Coordination and motor skills
- Collaboration
- Patience
- Resilience
- Discipline and dedication
If pupils would like to learn a musical instrument in school, parents should speak to the school office.
