At Libanus we are committed to ensuring that our pupils begin to have an awareness of the different career opportunities that are available in today’s society. We recognise that we live in an ever-changing world and some of the careers our children pursue in the future may not have been invented yet.  Therefore, we ensure that we provide our children with many transferable skills.

Children in primary school might seem too young to start thinking about careers. But they begin to develop ideas about the world around them and the jobs they could do from an early age.

We ensure that our pupils:

  • Understand why people work
  • Recognise that there are lots of different jobs
  • Are excited about the future and its possibilities
  • Challenge stereotypes and  know that opportunities are there for everyone
  • Start to learn and understand the words we use to talk about jobs, work and skills
  • Recognise what they like and do not like doing
  • Realise that hobbies and interests help develop useful skills
  • Understand that doing their best will give them more choices in the future

At Libanus we regularly have members of our community come into school to talk to children about their careers.  In the past year these have included:

  • Disability Wales Development Officer
  • Police
  • Business Manager
  • Ambulance Service
  • Nurses (school, respite, hospital)
  • University lecturer
  • Speech and Language therapist
  • Well-being Officer
  • Education Support Officer
  • Midwife

We also discuss careers and the world of work through our termly learning themes and learn about the ways that careers have changed over the years.
